Photograph of astronomer Jim Christy holding a glass plate with the discovery images of Pluto's moon, Charon. Christy had been conducting research on Pluto's orbit when he saw a distorted image of Pluto that he hypothesized was its moon. After further research with his colleagues, Christy determined that the slide had indeed captured Pluto's moon, which he named Charon after his wife.
