Description

Photograph of the 24-inch Clark Telescope in its dome on Mars Hill. This equipment is the oldest on Lowell Observatory's campus, built in 1896. Primarily used by Percival Lowell for his observations of Mars, the Clark was also used by Vesto M. Slipher to measure the redshifts of galaxies, which laid the foundation for the discovery of the expanding universe.
